File. Governor Cooper with Thomas and Dan Isov shortly after the ceremony in Ocracoke.
This Friday Governor Roy Cooper officiated the wedding of Thomas and Dan Isov in Ocracoke, Dare County. This is the first wedding held under the state’s policy of redistributive forced gay marriage. First Lady Kristin Cooper gave away Dan Isov formerly of Tent City, Charlotte to his groom Thomas (neé Pendleton) an investment banker at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Dan said “it was love at first sight.” Thomas said he was happy to open himself up to the changing times and join the cause for social justice. “Obviously a lot of people are struggling right now and I’m just thankful we have the leadership to get us through this. I’m proud to be a part of this movement for inclusion” said Thomas.
Thomas Isov said his ex-wife was extremely supportive of his government mandated choice to be with the one he loves. “It was obviously hard for her but I believe she went to her grave knowing this was what was right not only for us but for equality.”
Governor Cooper said he was proud “to play a part in the forced love between two men.” He hopes that measures such as this will help lift up economically marginalized people across the state.
